Quail Island
QUAIL ISLAND
Quail Island is an island in Lyttelton harbour, one hour buy bus, then ferry from Hornby High School.
Quail Island is a place where they use to quarantine people with Leprosy or those that arrived sick off the boats from England.
Dogs and animals were trained there before going to Antarctica. I
It is also a place where people are trying to restore the native trees to help the
environment and bring back native animals and birds.
This relates to our learning because we are learning about KAITIAKITANGA that means looking after
our environment. The D.O.C. and the Ecological Restoration Trust has been successful in getting rid of most of the predators on Quail Island.
They still have problems with mice and deer that swim across from the mainland.
I like going to Quail island because i like running and i got to run around a whole island!
I learnt that trees in New Zealand grow bigger in New Zealand then colder countries.
